My first photo in this blog post would probably give a clue that we celebrated two special occasions at NIU by Vikings. It was the birthday of Jesus and my Mother who was given the name “Jesusa” after she was born on Christmas day. We availed the “Flaunt Your Age” promo where my mom got a discount that’s equivalent to her age. So, at that time the older the better! LOL! Update: NIU by Vikings is now giving a free buffet lunch or dinner for birthday celebrants with one full paying adult. Full details can be accessed here: http://niu.ph/rates-and-promotions-1/
I visited their website to search for their contact numbers and with just the look of it, I felt that we’re up to something great. NIU is an upscale buffet restaurant by the Vikings group located at SM Aura Premier in Taguig. NIU means “nine” in the Viking language to denote that it’s Vikings’ 9th restaurant. We enjoyed different types of dishes from their 9 stations which could also be a reason why it was called NIU.
Dining in NIU was an experience from start to finish and thus very appropriate for special occasions. The place welcomed us with sophisticated interiors consisting of chandeliers, classy couches, and a grand piano. It looks very luxurious and at par with hotel restaurants.
I was expecting to be seated near the dessert table. But our cozy corner near the piano provided a soothing background and was therefore a lot better. I almost felt that I am having lunch in a hotel. NIU by Vikings offers private rooms for big groups as well. The rooms are named after countries like Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. It’s perfect for family and company events.
After a steaming bowl of hotpot/shabu-shabu, I didn’t miss the chance of getting a few of my favorites which are mostly from the Japanese and Chinese section. It was really tempting
but I was successful in restraining myself from having another round of tempura, salmon sashimi, and hakaw. My objective was to sample dishes that are not present in typical buffets that I have tried before. I am satisfied that with NIU’s variety of choices it is possible to attain this objective. But with what I’ve experienced, NIU is more than just having loads of choices. Aside from a great ambiance and interiors which I’ve already mentioned earlier, NIU offers excellent quality of ingredients, presentation of dishes, and service. We definitely got our money’s worth.
I’ve tasted dishes in all 9 stations including the drink station where they serve cocktails, imported beer, and fresh juices. Serving unlimited alcoholic drinks is very unusual and this
is another edge that NIU has over other buffet restaurants. It was here where I tried sake
for the first time and I was surprised that I liked it that I needed to get another shot. Before
I could order another round, I tried other dishes like potato gratin, roast beef, and blini
with caviar. And, after all these we still have space for gelato and cheesecake from their dessert table. NIU was just so awesome and it is one of those buffet restaurants where
I can’t pinpoint anything that I don’t like. If I have a complaint, maybe it’s the restroom’s proximity from where we were seated. It’s quite a long walk or maybe we were just full and lazy. Burppppp!
